Departure after breakfast when you wish from your hotel or apartment in Sofia. Our driver will meet you at the reception in the hotel or at your apartment. It takes about 30 min to get to Boyana church. The frescoes painted in 1259 make it one of the most important collections of medieval paintings and art in Bulgaria. You are allowed to spend about 10 minutes inside the church. After that it takes about 2 hours one way to get to the Rila Monastery where you have 1-3 hours to see it. Rila Monastery is the biggest active male orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, founded by the first Bulgarian hermit- Saint Ivan Rilski in the 10th century. After the big fire in 1833 the monastery was rebuilt anew, the only building which remained from the old monastery is the defense tower. In the Monastery you will have the chance to visit: The Church “Birth of the Holly Virgin” with the relics of Saint John of Rila (Ivan Rilski), the coffin of Tsar Boris III, the monastery kitchen /called Magernitsa/, Hrelyo’s defence tower, history and monastery economy museum. Visit to Saint Yoan’s Cave possible only in good weather. After that you can have lunch (6-10 euro per person: trout fish, pork, chicken, salad, beer or wine, bread). On the way back you can stop for a home made honey if you want to test and buy. Between 16:00 and 18:00 you are back in Sofia.
